Mathematics
At St Agatha’s we aim to develop the numeracy of our students that will equip them for their future lives. The concepts that are covered are grouped into three strands:
- Number and Algebra
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics and Probability
The mathematical proficiencies of reasoning, problem-solving, fluency and understanding are highlighted by the content and method of delivery of the Victorian Mathematics curriculum.
We achieve this by:
- Developing a sense of enjoyment of Mathematics through games and hands-on learning
- Providing open-ended investigations that require students to apply content knowledge to solve multi-step problems
- Differentiate tasks through the use of enabling and extending prompts
- Provide ample opportunities for students to discuss and articulate their learning
- Using digital technologies to enhance mathematical learning
- Building students vocabulary knowledge to effectively communicate mathematical ideas
- Using pre and post-assessment tasks to plot student progress and highlight the direction for teacher instruction
